Acacia dealbata Gauloise is a evergreen tree that can grow in shrub shape and can grow to more than 3 meters.
After the winter in early spring (March / April) it blooms and is really full of fluffy yellow flowers (called mimosa). The inflorescence is soft sweet and slightly scented on warmer days.
The leaf is finely sprung silver / green in color which is very similar to the leaf of the Albizia julibrissin.
The Acacia dealbata is the most hardy Acacia and can be planted in the open ground in a sheltered location without problems.
However, in case of a long lasting light frost in the winter, damage can occur and therefore you would better protect the plant in the winter.
Certainly young plants need protection. Tip here is that the roots with a layer of tree bark or the like are protected against the frost.
Plants close to a wall also save a few degrees. Young plants are more susceptible to frost damage than old ones. Furthermore, the Mimosa prefers to be in full sun.
Plant can also be kept in a tub, do not allow the tub to freeze.
Winter hardiness zone 10a (0ºC).
