Actinidia arguta "Ken's Red" is a red kiwiberry. This plant is female and needs a male pollinator. The kiwiberry "Weiki" is very suited for this task. Both plants have exactly the same time of flowering. This happens during may, the fruits will ripen around the end of August.
Of the Actinidia arguta are several species that are almost all hardy. The white / yellow blossom eventually makes way for the young kiwi fruits that grow to about 2-3 cm and are eaten with peel. The skin is very thin.
On the kiwi nurseries it is a common rule to put at least one male plant for every 5 female plants. This will improve the pollination. These plants are often intertwined and it makes it very hard to see where one ends and another plant begins.
The fruits are red in color and have no hairs like the ordinary kiwi.
The taste is very good and it is highly recommended! They taste like ordinary kiwi, but then a bit sweeter. The fruits are very noticeable between the green leaves and they hang in clusters on the branches.
A sunny place warm place will certainly benefit the fruit setting. These are ripe in August and can then be picked until well into late summer.
