Actinidia arguta "Weiki" is a male kiwi that serves excellently as a pollinator of other Actinidia species. The timing of flowering of the "Weiki" is almost exactly as that of the "Ken's Red". These two are therefore a good match to produce fruit.
Not all kiwi's are self pollinating and this makes cross pollination sometimes necessary to get fruit. The males(among which the "Weiki") are often placed between or near to the females. On kiwi nursery's the plants are often intertwined to a degree that it is no longer certain where one begins and the other ends. As a rule these growers put in a male plant for every 5 female plants.
The "Weiki" flowers around half may and will pollinate flowers that are also flowering in this period. The "Weiki" itself does NOT bear fruit.
A sunny place warm place will certainly benefit the flower setting.
Kiwis are full of vitamin C and except that they are very healthy, the plant gives a tropical look to every garden.
