Argyrocytisus battandieri is a shrub originating from the Atlas Mountains that has adapted perfectly to wind and cold.
This plant is good to keep in our climate, certainly planted in a sheltered place this plant can withstand temperatures of up to -15 degrees. In the Atlas mountains the plant has little access to fertilizer. Because of this the plant is used to dealing with little to no fertilizer. When given however, the plant will surely show his colours.
The leaves are silvery green in colour and look a bit like clover.
This exuberant bloomer gets yellow flower cones that smell wonderful and spread a sweet pineapple scent. The Argyrocytisus can reach a height and width of 4 meters and is easily in maintanance. Pruning can best be done in summer when the plant is ready flowering. This means that te plant still has enough time to start growing some new shoots. When it is planted it can best use some help to stand upright. After a year however the plant no longer needs this when it has hardened some of it's wood.
The Argyrocytisus usually blooms after a few years. Our plants however have all been grafted and can flower from the first year.
Winter hardiness zone 7b (-15ºC).
