Calliandra tweedii belongs to the family of mimosaceae. The mimosaceae include, for example, the Albizia and Mimosa. Originally this exotic cocktail plant is found in the tropics of Brazil, Suriname and the Caribbean.
The Calliandra tweedii is a beautiful evergreen cultivation plant. In cloudy weather or in the evening the leaves are folding.
The bloom is amazing, the bright red fluffy flowers appear in April / May and the bloom continues until the end of October. In addition, the flowers taste deliciously sweet and are a real reminder for the enthusiast of fragrant plants.
The Calliandra can grow in free nature to a tree of over 4-5 meters. As a cultivar, the Calliandra tweedii is up to 150 cm high and is pristine well below 1 meter. You can fertilize this cultivated plant from May to September every two weeks with, for example, dried cowshed grain or 1x a month with a little Fertilizzante Mediterraneo .
During the winter, the Calliandra does not need any fertilizer anymore. Regularly water and winter at a temperature of + 5ºC.
