Canna musafolia was formerly called Canna Excelsa. Later, in 1858, the name was changed to Musafolia because of the similarity of the leaves that resemble that of the banana (Musa).
This beautiful leaf plant (may also bloom) is also called "Banana Canna".
The Canna musafolia has a very high "Tropical Look" and may not be lacking in an exotic garden.
Bananas grow fast, but the Canna musafolia is able to grow up to 3 meters in one season. The stem has an oval shape and is red in color. The leaf is green with a red to purple nuts and leaf edges.
The Canna musafolia can grow in bloom from mid July and then bloom until the first frost. It should be noted that the plant is not easy to bloom and summer must be good enough, but it is possible.
If the canna is not flourished, you have a beautiful leaf plant in your garden.
The leaf dies completely after a few nights frost. Now it's time to protect the roots against the frost. Leave them in the ground then cover with a layer of 20 cm leaf or bark. In spring, the Canna will grow again from the beginning of May.
Excavation of the roots can also and is our preference.
Keep the roots cool, dark and dry, eg in an open box with a cloth over it. Plants delivered in winter and early year have no foliage, this appears again in spring.
Put in the ground in the spring from mid April 10 cm. Soon the canna will surprise you with its powerful growth. In spring and summer, a small amount of organic manure can be administered during the month and in hot weather additional water.
Winter hardness zone 10b (0ºC).
