Agave univittata is also known as the thorn crested agave or the thorncrest century plant. The quadricolor variety is quite well-known in England but this is NOT this variety. This is the regular univittata that is quite easy to differ from other agaves due to it's light green stripe over it's darker green leaf. This species originates in Southern Texas and Northern Mexico and grows to altitudes up to a 100 meters. Due to this, it is not as frost resistant as other agaves.
The name Thorn Crested Agave is well earned because of it's thorns that run alongside the leaf. The point of the leaf is very sharp as well. When this plant flowers it can reach up to 5 meters.
The plant is very drought tolerant but can surely use some water in the summer months. Winter this plant indoor in a pot with very good drainage.
