Palmbomen-palms Chamaerops vulcano

This Chamaerops vulcano is also a fan palm and has even more compact leaf growth than the Chamaerops humilis.
There are fewer spines on the leaf of this palm than his relative Chamaerops humilis.

The leaves are more compact and smaller, dark green in color with a white waxy layer which gives a nice contrast.
The Chamaerops vulcano grows very slowly, so larger ones are often quite expensive.

The origin of these palms is the small island Vulcano just north of the island of Sicily. This palm tree can withstand heat and drought but some extra water and light fertilization in the summer benefits the growth and beautiful fresh green color.

This palm tree also grows cluster-like and very compact and full. It is, thanks to its slow and compact growth, an ideal container plant. The winter hardiness is reasonable, but in the ground, extra protection in the winter.
