Psidium cattleianum also known as Psidium littoral, is a relative of the Psidium guajava (Guava).
This tropical fruit plant is evergreen and can grow up to 4 meters high. Grows with a short thick trunk that branches in bush form.
The trunk is smooth and brown in color.

The leaf of the Psidium cattleianum is oval and the top is shiny and dark green in color. The underside of the leaf is light green and dull.
The 2 to 3 cm wide white flowers and have many long stamens, the flowers are fragrant.
These grow in the leaf axils in clusters of 3 during the month of May.
The strawberry guava is self-pollinating.

The fruits of the strawberry guava are ovoid to round in shape and are about 1 to 3 cm in size. Initially they are green in color, but as they reach, they turn to dark red or purple-red.
The taste resembles that of the strawberry but with more aroma and slightly sweet / sour. This fruit can be eaten out of hand, but is also widely used in compote, jam, ice cream or as fruit juice.
If kept as a container plant, overwinter at a minimum temperature above the freezing point or warmer.
