Phormium tenax is an evergreen plant and is a native plant in New Zealand.
Many Phormium species are now also grown in the Mediterranean as an ornamental plant.
This plant is characterized by special leaves that are available in various colors such as green, yellow, variegata, copper red, apricot, black / violet to red etc.

Flowering time is in July and August and beautiful flowers appear on the long leafless stems.
Water a lot in the summer and the Phormium may receive a small amount of fertilizer every week.
They become stately and robust plants in a tub that radiate class. A place in the full sun or half shadow is OK, the Phormium is an easy plant.

In the winter it is best to let the tub overwinter at a temperature above freezing and be very careful with watering.
Do not give manure, that is allowed again from May to September.
The Phormium tenax can tolerate some frost, a specimen in the ground will freeze in severe frost.
A layer of mulch is not wrong as a ground cover in the winter.
