Delonix regia or Flamboyant is a tropical tree native to North and West Madagascar and in Puerto Rico the national tree. The evergreen exotic (if heated during overwintering) is an easy container with special leaves.
The feathered light green leaves are up to 40/50 cm long and 20/25 cm wide. These consist of hundreds of 1 centimeter long leaflets.
In the evening the leaves fold together and close as it were.

The flowers appear in the late spring and during the summer and are orange-red to scarlet and up to 15 cm in size.
These large special flowers grow in clusters and are a feast for the eyes. The outside of the petals are green and the inside is red.
The upper petal is white or yellow in color with red dots. The flowers have 10 red stamens with yellow/brown anthers.
The flowers are pollinated by insects and butterflies and get 30 to 50 cm and up to 6 cm wide hanging pods.
These remain on the plant until the new flowers appear again.

The Delonix regia can grow to 15 meters in the wild. She can also be kept very well as a container plant and can be kept in any desired size by pruning.
The flamboyant likes to be in a warm sunny spot in well-drained potting soil. In the growing season, the plant is allowed regular water and light fertilization every three weeks.
In the winter, give the potting soil reticent water, certainly not too wet soil.
If the plant overwinters at a temperature of 10ºC, it loses its leaves. This new leaf appears again in the spring. When you are wintering in a heated room, the plant will keep the leaf.
