Grevillea robusta or Australian silver oak comes from Australia.
This plant is family of the Protaceae, plants of this family are sun worshippers and come from Australia or South Africa. In this family more than 1500 different species occur and of all of these protaceae the Grevillea robusta is the most numerous.
This plant can be in full soil, but it should not be a pristine place in winter. In case of more than moderate frost, some protection must be applied.
Freezing in a frost freeze glasshouse is sufficient. It is better to keep this beautiful plant in a tub.

The robusta grows in it's native land of Australia to be a big tree. The maximum height can reach up to 30 metres. In Northern Europe it will not become this big since it lacks the temperature and the intensity of the sun. In Australia itself this plant is used a lot for furniture and it's difficult to find bigger trees there. In other sub tropical places in the world (Israel, United States, South-Africa, Argentina and so on) however it's very common to see them since they are resistant to heat, drought and bright sun.

The Grevillea has yellow flowers once the tree matures. The flowering can take all summer long and the plant keeps on producing new flowers during this period.
