Gunnera manicata is a great plant and gets huge leaves that really become gigantic. The Gunnera manicata is a perennial perennial.
The leaves unfold after spring to leaves with a diameter of up to 100 cm or more.
The Gunnera manicata can be solitary planted on a lawn or in a large border.
During the growth of the new leaf, new blooms emerge that are brown / red in color.
These too are impressive and can reach a height of up to 50 cm.

Mammoet leaf has no sharp spines or anything and is for children a dream to play under or shelter from the rain.
The petioles can be 150 cm high.
The plant can be placed in full sun, but you should provide it with enough water to prevent leaf burn. You can also give the Gunnera manicata a lot of water in the spring and summer.

By the winter, the leaves turn brown and die off.
At the site of the roots you should sprinkle a thick layer of old leaves or straw to protect the roots against the frost.
This mass also digests and is a welcome food for the plant in the spring.
In this way you can defy severe frost and the plant will again unfold its leaves in the autumn.
Also extra fattening is not immediately necessary, the material to protect the frost is sufficient fertilization.
If you do decide to fatten, do it with cow manure or fresh manure, then explosive growth is the result.
Mammoetblad likes a lot of water in warm weather for even faster growth.
Winter hardiness zone 7a (-17ºC).
