Maclura pomifera Cannonball, also called Osage thorn and Osage orange or Cannonball, is dioecious and a plant from the mulberry family. These plants, originally from North America, were in the area where the Osage Indians were staying.
The Cannonball is yhe Osagethorn whose very decorative fruits can weigh up to more than 1 kilogram. The fruits are light green in color and have a special shape that resembles a brain. Also called Monkey Brains. The fruits are purely decorative, they are not toxic, but they are also not tasty.
The tree grows with beautiful curved branches and with a full crown and a very nicely shaped trunk. The wood of the tree is used for various purposes because it is very hard wood.
The bark is brown / orange in color. The white flowers grow in clusters from mid-May. The leaves are green and shiny, the leaves turn beautiful yellow and orange in the fall.
