Product information

Tamarindus indica is a tropical tree. The name makes you think that it originates from India but this is not the case. The plant/tree was shipped to India long before the common era began and immediately spreaded quickly. This happened because of the usefull habits of the tree.

Out of the pulp of the fruits Tamarind syrup is squeezed. This syrup is used in soda and as well in many different sauces(worcestersauce for example). It is also used commonly in the Asian and Antilian cuisine.

The tree itself does not have a lot of wishes and is quite easily pleased as long as the soil is not too sour. This plant also does not like the cold. A heated greenhouse is best to winter this tree. You could try to keep it in your living room as well. The Tamarind keeps his leaves so its not good to keep it at a place where there's no daylight. The tree itself grows very slowly. The varied setting of leaves are feathered and quite resemble Albizia or Calliandra.

Hardiness: + 10ºC
